About the event

Beneath our feet lies an underground kingdom of fungi, an intricate network of mycelium—the root-like structure of mushrooms that connects ecosystems, recycles nutrients, and sustains life. But beyond its natural role, mycelium is emerging as one of the most exciting materials in sustainable design, offering biodegradable, regenerative, and versatile alternatives to plastics, foams, textiles, and even construction materials.

Fungi Futures: Designing with Mycelium is an immersive seminar that explores the transformative potential of mycelium beyond furniture. While mycelium-grown furniture has captured attention in the design world, this session will dive deeper into its broader possibilities—spanning furniture, fashion, packaging, and product design. We’ll examine how mycelium is reshaping material innovation, reducing waste, and challenging our perceptions of what materials can be.
