Creating a character inspired by fungus
The Forest in the Tree tells the story of the mycorrhizal fungi and the chocolate tree. Come meet author Ailsa Wild and a bundle of your local friendly mycelium. We’ll read some of the book, learn a tiny bit of science, and design our own story characters inspired by real life fungi.

About the event
The Forest in the Tree tells the story of the mycorrhizal fungi and the chocolate tree. Come meet author Ailsa Wild and a bundle of your local friendly mycelium. We’ll read some of the story, learn a tiny bit of science, and design our own story character inspired by real life fungi.
This workshop is for 5-8 year olds and their families. It will be fun and hands on, with plenty of time for questions and making.
Ailsa Wild is an author of 24 published books. She went to Bega High school and moved to Melbourne to study creative writing. She became excited about science when her housemate, a microbiologist, suggested they collaborate on a book. Her adventure series’ Squishy Taylor and the Naughtiest Pixie are beloved by young readers and her recent graphic novel, Follow Your Gut, was listed as a CBCA Notable.
